oyama is a design studio led by architect Theodore Oyama that operates across a range of scales and project types. From residential and commercial buildings, to interior design and furniture, all of the work embodies a commitment to the craft of building thoughtfully. The studio approaches each design problem without preconceived solutions and develops unique responses collaboratively. Through a series of dialogues with both client and site emerge solutions which are pragmatic, distinctive, and rooted in the place.

At the core of oyama is the workshop, a place to test products, materials, methods and finishes. It is a space that draws upon Theodore’s early career spent as both an architect and a carpenter and helps to expand the studios construction knowledge. All oyama projects are thus carefully detailed using high performance materials adapted to the needs of each client and budget.

This design process, the studio’s first and perpetual project, is one that is constantly being refined to ensure client satisfaction as well as progress a larger conversation about the quality of the spaces we inhabit and how we build them.
